A Letter to My Dearest Love,
From Chicago to Israel, across the Pacific, and onward to the sun-kissed horizons of California, I pen these words with excitement in my soul. Make no mistake: technology—fueled by the explosive rise of spatial computing headsets—is transforming every moment of our day-to-day lives at breakneck speed.
I’ve been fortunate to own a Microsoft HoloLens—a marvel of mixed reality that lets me place digital objects wherever I please. I can walk into a store and instantly see special holographic promotions that only show up through my lens. That might seem like science fiction, but it’s quickly turning into our new everyday. Just as camera phones once sparked unease before becoming second nature, headsets may soon follow the same path and become as commonplace as the phones we cradle in our hands.
Of course, not everyone welcomes change. I’ve been on the receiving end of suspicious looks and disapproving comments—some folks are uncomfortable with what they perceive as all-seeing, all-recording eyewear. But I firmly believe these devices can enrich the lives of many, particularly individuals who rely on digital aids. From assisting those who are neurodivergent to offering real-time guidance for the visually impaired, spatial computing can open doors in ways we’re only beginning to imagine.
I expect lively debates on the legal and ethical boundaries, too. Will a day come when businesses must accommodate people wearing headsets, just as they do for wheelchairs or service animals? Could it become a discrimination issue to deny someone entry based on the technology they use? We’re in new territory here, and these are questions well worth asking.
Yet in the midst of this high-tech whirlwind, I think of all of you—my nearest and dearest, scattered across the globe. With my HoloLens, I’ve recorded snippets of daily life, hoping to bring you along for the ride. It’s amazing how a futuristic headset can spark such timeless longings for connection: the desire to recognize a familiar face in a crowd, to share a joke across miles, and to preserve those fleeting moments that keep us bonded.
As I move from place to place, I carry you with me—memories, hopes, and the promise of good things to come. I can’t wait for the day we’re able to gather in person—whether in a bustling Tel Aviv market, a quiet California café, or somewhere else that fate has in store. When we do, I hope to show you firsthand how technology can sparkle, not just in the realm of gadgets and apps, but in the deeper way it brings us closer to one another.
Until that day arrives, stay curious, stay open to possibility, and know you are ever in my thoughts.
With Warmth and Anticipation,
Dastin
