EMRT 2.1 – What You Need to Know About the Latest Responsible Minerals Template

Responsible mineral sourcing is rapidly becoming a central requirement for manufacturers—especially in electronics, batteries, and advanced technology sectors. As regulations tighten and customers demand greater transparency, companies must track where minerals such as cobalt, mica, nickel, graphite, and lithium originate.

To support this global shift, the Responsible Minerals Initiative developed the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT), now updated to version 2.1. This new release improves clarity, accuracy, and traceability for organizations managing mineral data across complex supply chains.

⭐ What Is EMRT 2.1?

EMRT 2.1 is a standardized reporting template used by manufacturers and suppliers to disclose information about the minerals used in their products. It helps companies identify:

The minerals present in their components

The smelters, refiners, and mines involved

Potential sourcing risks

Whether materials may come from conflict-affected or high-risk areas

The template supports due-diligence practices and is widely recognized across the global supply chain.

⭐ What’s New in EMRT 2.1?

Version 2.1 introduces improvements that make the reporting process clearer and more efficient for suppliers and manufacturers. Key enhancements include:

Clearer Mineral Selection Notice

Suppliers now see a better-formatted explanation of which minerals must be reported, reducing confusion and incomplete answers.

New Product-Identification Fields

Two new fields allow suppliers to directly reference the requester’s product information:

Requester Product Number

Requester Product Name

This creates a more precise link between declarations and the products being assessed.

Updated Facility Lists

Smelter and mine data within the template have been refreshed, allowing companies to work with more current information.

Minor Formatting and Navigation Improvements

The structure is now more intuitive and aligned with templates that suppliers already know, reducing errors and training time.

⭐ Why EMRT 2.1 Matters

Companies across the electronics and battery industries depend on mineral data to meet regulatory, sustainability, and customer requirements. EMRT 2.1 supports these goals in several ways:

Better Risk Identification

With clearer fields and newer facility information, identifying potential sourcing risks is easier and more accurate.

More Reliable Supplier Submissions

The improvements reduce mistakes, missing entries, and misunderstandings, improving the overall quality of declarations.

Stronger Traceability

Linking mineral declarations to specific product codes strengthens internal mapping between BOMs and supply-chain data.

Simpler Transition Process

Because the layout remains familiar, suppliers can adopt the new version with minimal disruption.
