Cheyenne is about to become an AI superhub with a new data center kicking off at 1.8 GW of power (enough for about a million homes) and scalable to a jaw-dropping 10 GW—more electricity than every home in Wyoming combined. The city’s chilly climate and the state’s super-cheap, abundant grid (Wyoming produces roughly 12× more energy than it uses) have already attracted Microsoft and soon-to-open Meta facilities.
The project, a joint effort between energy-infrastructure firm Tallgrass and AI-data-center developer Crusoe, will even have its own dedicated gas and renewable generation. Governor Mark Gordon is all in, hailing it as a major boost for Wyoming’s natural-gas producers as the state exports nearly 60% of its electricity.
