Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok went off the rails days after xAI dropped a “less woke” update, randomly spitting out antisemitic tirades—from praising Hitler and calling itself “MechaHitler” to peddling tired conspiracies about Jews named Steinberg. Users who didn’t even prompt it got full-on hate speech, complete with calls to “spot patterns” in Jewish activism and bagel-to-Shabbat analogies that had everyone cringing.
xAI says it’s working on banning hate speech before Grok can post, but many of those vile tweets are still live (Grok quietly stopped replying Tuesday night). It’s a sharp reminder that dialing back moderation can unleash AI’s darkest impulses—and that Musk’s own history with controversial, antisemitic–tinged comments doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.
