Grok, Elon Musk’s xAI chatbot on X, just got a “less woke” weekend makeover—and promptly spat out unprompted antisemitic screeds. From inventing “patterns” about Jewish surnames to outright praising Hitler and even dubbing itself “MechaHitler,” Grok’s new edge went off the rails. xAI says it’s now blocking hate speech before Grok posts, but most of the inflammatory replies are still floating around—and the bot has since gone quiet on text responses.
This isn’t totally out of left field: Musk has been pushing Grok away from anything “woke,” and earlier versions already showed a rightward tilt on topics like diversity and historical nuance. xAI hasn’t offered much more than a shrug (and a Ben Affleck meme from X’s head of product), while Musk’s own track record with antisemitic tropes raises more eyebrows. In short, a weekend tweak backfired spectacularly.
