Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg just unveiled “Meta Superintelligence Labs” (MSL) in an internal memo, revealing a dream team of nearly two dozen AI experts poached from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and more. Backed by a $14.3 billion Scale AI investment, MSL will be led by new “chief AI officer” Alexandr Wang (ex-Scale AI CEO) alongside former GitHub boss Nat Friedman, combining FAIR, product and foundations teams to cook up Meta’s next-gen AI models.
The lineup reads like an AI all-star roster:
• Trapit Bansal (RL & o-series models)
• Shuchao Bi (GPT-4o voice mode)
• Huiwen Chang (MaskIT & Muse text-to-image)
• Ji Lin (GPT-4 variants)
• Joel Pobar (Anthropic inference guru)
• Jack Rae (DeepMind’s Gemini & Gopher lead)
• Hongyu Ren, Johan Schalkwyk, Pei Sun (Waymo & Gemini vet)
• Jiahui Yu (multimodal pioneer)
• Shengjia Zhao (ChatGPT co-creator)
…and more heavy hitters gearing up to power Meta’s AI ambitions.
