OpenAI has rolled out GPT-5 to free ChatGPT users and subscribers, touting it as “generally intelligent” — a step toward AGI, but not quite there. According to Sam Altman, it’s smarter, faster, and more accurate than GPT-4, with far fewer hallucinations. There are new model flavors (5, mini, nano in the API, plus Pro and Thinking in the $200/month tier) and pricing ranges from $0.05 to $10 per million tokens depending on variant and usage level.
Aside from raw speed, GPT-5 packs a 256k-token context window, Google app integrations (Gmail, Calendar, Contacts), and chat personalities like Cynic and Nerd. Early tests show big gains in coding and healthcare benchmarks, plus a significant drop in factual errors. With over 700 million people now using ChatGPT weekly, this upgrade should be hard to miss.
