Softbank founder Masayoshi Son has declared that “the era of human programmers is coming to an end,” as he aims to deploy one billion AI agents this year—about 1,000 for each employee—to take over coding, negotiations and decision-making. These agents, which range from simple bots to self-driving systems, would cost roughly €0.23 per month each (around €230 for a thousand), slashing traditional salary expenses.

Son envisions these AI programs working 24/7, interacting and learning independently to boost productivity and efficiency far beyond human levels. He brushes off AI hallucinations as “temporary” hiccups, betting on imminent artificial general intelligence and building out massive data centers and software platforms to manage his future legions of digital workers.
