Could smart goggles bridge the gap between Vision Pro and Apple Glasses?

TL;DR

Apple’s Vision Pro is basically a pricey proof-of-concept on the road to true AR glasses, with a cheaper headset and “Apple Glasses” still years off. In the meantime, a new “goggles” form factor—lighter than a bulky headset but more capable than dinky smart glasses—could bridge the gap. TikTok-owner ByteDance is reportedly cooking up its own mixed-reality goggles that offload the heavy lifting to a little puck, echoing Meta’s Orion prototype.

If Chinese buyers bite, we might see four clear AR categories: full headsets (Quest, Vision Pro), interim smart specs (Ray-Ban Meta), these new goggles for home/office, and eventually, sleek AR glasses from Apple and rivals.
