Linus Tries VR From 1994
Linus unboxes a chunky, beige DOS-era VR headset and straps in, wondering if early ‘90s virtual reality was more hype than substance. Spoiler: it’s hilariously cumbersome, with low-res graphics, sluggish head-tracking and cables everywhere—definitely not ready for prime time, but still oddly charming.
Despite the clunky hardware, he fires up classics like Quake, Rise of the Triad and Descent and finds the nostalgia factor surprisingly high. Between jittery visuals and a genuine “this is wild for 1994” vibe, Linus concludes that early VR was a fun experiment but miles away from today’s slick headsets.
