Linus Takes a Trip to 1994 VR
Linus straps into one of the original consumer VR headsets—complete with beige plastics, chunky cables and megapixel dreams—and plows through Quake, Rise of the Triad and Descent. The visuals are choppy and the field of view is laughably tiny, but there’s still a thrill in seeing how far VR has come.
After testing gameplay, he peels back the hardware to show off the guts: heavy headgear, limited tracking and a lot of cable management. It’s a charming reminder that even the cringiest tech of yesterday paved the way for today’s slick, immersive headsets.
