The Little Things that Keep Your Day Moving.

It did not occur to me that such a difference could be created by such a small piece of metal in my day to day life until my garage door spring malfunctioned last month. It was such a morning when everything goes slightly wrong and you are standing out in the morning, hoping to open the door by hand as the coffee is getting cold in. It is so funny how something so mundane, something you hardly ever even think of, could suddenly become the focus of your day.

I even made a call to see someone and it was strangely intriguing to see them at work. It has a beat to repairs of things which we frequently assume. Fixing a garage door spring is not an impressive job, yet it is among those that keep life moving on in a silent manner. Even when they worked I came to see that we are so reliant on invisible structures the springs, the hinges, the little mechanisms that bear weight of the larger portions of our day. And not only doors, but what we spy upon to uphold our habits.

I also observed how much it is easy to neglect maintenance until something fails. It made me remember, that it is much easier to save a lot of stress later with a little bit of regular attention. The following morning, the opening of the garage was like a small triumph, it was a reminder of how effortless things could be when someone, or something, is silently going about its business and doing it well.

It made me wonder what other ways there are so many other invisible components of life that we do not pay much attention to, until they break down. The appreciation of broken springs and the unaddressed emails, there is some level of appreciation that you get when you notice them before they come in our way. Have you ever had an occasion when something simple like repairing a broken car or fixing something that was slightly wrong made your entire routine seem simpler? It is weird how something that is so ordinary can make any impact.
