We teamed up with William Osman to whip up a delightfully janky yet seriously portable NAS—stuffed with 15.36TB NVMe SSDs, 18TB HDDs, an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D, up to 96 GB of DDR5, a Pro XG PoE switch and more—to haul every last byte of his OpenSauce footage. Between drop tests, spray-painting the chassis, and even building a second backup NAS, this was part tech demo, part stress test and part art project.
When the Franken-NAS finally came together, we kitted it out on a mini workstation, ran every port-and-cable test we could think of, then rolled into OpenSauce to unveil our brain-cell-powered storage beast. It might not win beauty pageants, but if you need high-capacity video storage on the move, it’s a wild success.
